The Finnish designer Eero Aarnio (b.1932) is one of the great innovators of modern furniture design. In the 1960s, Eero Aarnio began experimenting with plastics, vivid colors and organic forms, breaking away from traditional design conventions. His now iconic creations include the Ball (1963), the Pastil (1968), and the Bubble (1968) chairs which echo the pop culture and spirit of their time. Many of Aarnio's works are included in the world's most prestigious museums, including Victoria and Albert Museum in London, MoMA in New York and Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.

Carlo Alessi was born in Granerolo (Verbania) in 1916. Carlo Alessi studied technical design at the OMAR institute in Novara and from an early age worked in a metal workshop set up by his father, Giovanni, in 1921. From the mid-thirties until the mid-forties, he designed many Alessi works including the “Ottagonale”, “Scalini”, “Cilindrica” and “Bombé'” series. In the fifties, he became managing director of the Alessi company bringing with him a new international dimension and began working with new external designers. He was president of Alessi S.p.A until 2009, when he passed away.

Giovanni Alessi Anghini was born in Milan in 1981. After conducting his primary studies in Italy and Switzerland; his professional training began at the University of Florence where he focused his attention on courses in cultural sociology and anthropology. In 2002, he returned to Milan with a view to translate and apply his studies to industrial design, collaborating with Stefano Giovannoni and working freelance. Over the following years, he worked with companies such as ALESSI, PHILIPS, VITRA, VERSACE and FOREVERLAMP within the companies themselves and also as an external consultant through his own studio, GAA Design Farm, founded in 2006. In the following years his work (notably his first project: POP-UP) was recognized with the 2008 GOOD DESIGN AWARD, and was included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Architecture and Design in Chicago (The Chicago Athenaeum). He began the year 2011 with a new adventure, aimed at understanding oriental cultures, hence the decision to base his project activities between Lake Maggiore and Asia.

Giovanni Alessi Anghini

Her artistic practice extends across a range of creative disciplines, from painting, photography and sculpture to sound and object design. Mathematics, geometry, folding, abstraction, colour and form are frequently explored in her work. Alice has undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in fine art. Alice approaches design from an artistic point of view. In many instances her abstract paintings are the foundation for her product design. Will Alsop, English architect and artist, was born at Northampton (1947). Alsop studied at the Architectural Association in London and worked with Cedric Price, Roderick Ham and Jan Störmer until early 2001, when he founded Alsop Architects with branches in London, Rotterdam and Moscow. His most significant projects completed in these years were the Passenger &amp; Ferry Terminal in Hamburg; Barrage &amp; Visitor Centre in Cardiff; Le Grand Bleu Government Headquarters in Marseilles; the Tottenham Hale and North Greenwich Jubilee Line Underground Stations in London, the Reuters headquarters in Moscow and the State Archives in Hamburg. Alsop’s work and projects have received wide recognition and awards. His professional work has always been integrated with teaching.

Francesca Amfitheatrof

Ron was born in Tel Aviv in 1951. He studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and at the Architectural Association of London, where Bernard Tschumi was his teacher and Nigel Coates and Zaha Hadid his colleagues. Currently he lives and works in London where he teaches at The Royal College of Art, putting architecture to one side for a while. Although he has in fact recently returned to that discipline, Ron turned his attention to design and began working with several Italian companies. He has created some world-famed pieces and is a true virtuoso as can been seen in works like his performance. Ron is always searching for new unconventional solutions for common objects and experimenting with new technologies and materials in innovative forms.

Wiel Arets (1955) is an internationally renowned architect. He graduated from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands in 1983, where he received a Master of Science in Architecture. He established his own office that same year, which later expanded throughout Europe. His writings and projects are published globally. Since 1989 he has continually taught at the world’s most distinguished universities. From 1995 to 2001 he was Dean of the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, and in 2012 he was appointed Dean of the College of Architecture (CoA) at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago. An eminent critic, he was the President of the Jury for the 2012 Venice Biennale of Architecture, Chair of the Jury for the 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture—Mies van der Rohe Award, and in 2014 he established, together with the CoA, the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP), of which he is President of the Board.

To become familiar with Dror’s work is to increasingly understand the logic and process that drive his style. He thrives on uncovering the origins of movement while focusing on innovation in materials, technologies and geometries. His creations reflect a certain mode of living and well-being given greater definition and refinement by design. Dror is an extension of Dror Benshetrit’s work. Founded in 2002, Dror is a multidisciplinary design company specializing in product design, architecture and art direction. Dror’s client list includes Alessi, Bentley, Boffi, Bombay Sapphire, BBB Emmebonacina, Cappellini, Kiehl’s, Levi’s, Material Connexion, Maya Romanoff, Marithe + Francois Girbaud, Rosenthal, Skins Footwear, Yigal Azrouël, Shvo, Swarovski, and Target. Trained rigorously at the Design Academy Eidhoven, Dror cultivates originality in each project he adopts. Dror’s work has attracted attention from all major international publications. The Vase of Phases, his collaboration with Rosenthal, won the iF Product Design Award in 2006 and is included in the permanent collections of museums in North America, Europe and the Middle East. He has lectured widely and has exhibited without fail in Salone and ICFF since 2004. Dror Benshetrit

Ben van Berkel studied architecture at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and at the Architectural Association in London, receiving the AA Diploma with Honours in 1987.
In 1988 he and Caroline Bos set up an architectural practice in Amsterdam, extending their theoretical and writing projects to the practice of architecture. The Van Berkel &amp; Bos Architectuurbureau has realized, amongst others projects, the Karbouw office building, the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen, the Moebius House and the NMR facilities for the University of Utrecht. In 1998 Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos established a new firm: UNStudio (United Net). UNStudio presents itself as a network of specialists in architecture, urban development and infrastructure.
Current projects include the design for Doha's Intregrated Metro network in Qatar, the Raffles City mixed-use development in Hangzhou and the Canaletto Tower in London.
With UNStudio he realized amongst others the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Arnhem Central Station in the Netherlands, the façade and interior renovation for the Galleria Department store in Seoul, the Singapore University of Technology and Design and a private villa up-state New York.
Ben van Berkel has lectured and taught at many architectural schools around the world. He was recently awarded the Kenzo Tange Visiting Professor's Chair at Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Steven Blaess lived his childhood travelling with his family throughout Southern Australia. After graduating with a Bachelor of Design in Human Environments from the University of South Australia in 1994, he designed commercial offices interiors and furniture in Hong Kong and worked with some of Australia’s architecture, interior and graphic design companies. Since 1999, Steven has worked with manufacturing companies in Europe such as Artemide, Edra, iGuzzini lighting, Fratelli Guzzini. His works of architecture, interior and industrial design are published in international design publications and exhibited in Milan, Paris, Berlin, London, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. Steven made final selection for his Torch Design Proposal for Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Born in Belgium in 1962. In 1988 he won the competition of the CHAMBER OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT in Brussels which signed the beginning of his Architectural and Design career. In ‘2000, he opened a new workshop dedicated to Industrial Design and experimental Architecture in Lucca - Tuscany in his "CASA BOUCQUILLON", extremely experimental place of exploration, meditation, live and work. Michel actually works for the world most famous International Design companies: Alessi, Artemide, Antoniolupi, Serralunga, Martinelliluce. His work is present in several Museums and got many of the main international Awards, recently: Menzione d’Onore Compasso d’Oro 2011, Good Design Award 2008, Design Plus 2006.
Donia Maaoui, Michel’s wife and an architect herself, works alongside her husband on some of the Alessi and Martinelliluce projects, although her principal occupation is cast bronze sculpture and painting.

Ronan Bouroullec (born 1971) and Erwan Bouroullec (born 1976) have been working together for about ten years now. 
In 1997, they presented their “Disintegrated Kitchen” at the Salon du Meuble in Paris and were spotted by Giulio Cappellini, who gave them their first industrial design projects.
In 2000, Issey Miyake asked them to design a space for his new collection in Paris. Then, the decisive meeting with chairman of Vitra occurred which resulted in their conception of a new kind of office system. This was the beginning of a special partnership which has borne fruit in numerous projects.
Today, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec design for numerous manufacturers. At the same time, they maintain an experimental activity which is essential to the development of their work at Galerie kreo, Paris. They also embark on occasional architectural projects.
Voted Designers of the Year at the Salon du Meuble in 2002, their other awards include the Grand Prix du Design (Paris, 1998), the New Designer Award at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF New York, 1999) and the Finn-Juhl Prize (Copenhagen, 2008). 
Several exhibitions have been devoted to their work.: Design Museum, London (2002), Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, and La Piscine, Musée d’Art et d’Industrie, Roubaix (all in 2004), at the Villa Noailles, Hyeres (2008) and at the Grand Hornu, Belgium (2009).

Manuela Busetti and Andrea Garuti meet while studying Industrial Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan. Already during the academic years, they face together the design issues and in 2004, the year of the XX Compasso d’Oro ADI, they receive the selection "Progetto Giovane" for their degree thesis project “Double”, an innovative cooler bag made of neoprene.
Since 2004, they start individual collaborations with different studios of product and advance design in Milan and, at the same time, they undertake together the business of freelance and design for internationals competitions and for manufacturing companies of different sectors, tableware, bathroom fittings, sanitaryware, furniture, etc…
In 2007, with the project “Culla Belly” they win the 1st prize in the international competition “Playing Design” of the city of Lissone in partnership with La Triennale Milano.
In 2008, they are both selected for the experimental project “Prime Cup 01” promoted by the Regione Lombardia and Triennale di Milano to improve the level of innovation of selected SMEs of Lombardy.
The projects are exhibited and shown to the public in the Agora theater, at Triennale di Milano.
Matteo Redaelli graduates in 2007 at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan as Industrial Designer. In the same year, their three working lives meet during the common collaboration with a Design studio in Milan.
In 2008, they start to work together on new projects combining their different skills and sensibilities.
New collaborations begin with manufacturing companies of different sectors, kitchen and bathroom faucets, tableware, kitchenware, cooktops e ovens, furniture for indoor and outdoor, etc…
In 2010, they win the Cristalplant design contest promoted by Zanotta and Cristalplant with the project of an innovative coffee table, called “Naica“.
In 2012, they win it again with the versatile project of the table “Verve” for Poliform.

Born in Milan in 1913, he graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1936 and in the same year he started his activity in Venice together with Livio and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, winning the competition held at the Vimercate School. In the field of Industrial design he was considered a "pioneer" when he presented at the VII Triennial in Milan a series of radios designed together with the Castiglioni brothers. In the '50s he set up, together with Gardella and Corradi, Azucena which is a collection of the furniture and objects he designed. The "Caccia" cutlery he designed are shown at the Museum of Modern Art of New York.

Humberto Campana, lawyer and Fernando Campana, architect, have been working together in San Paolo since 1983 in the field of artistic design. They came into the limelight in 1989 with the furniture exhibition provocatively entitled "Gli inconfortabili" (The Inconsolable), a political manifesto rather than functional objects. Their radical point of view is strengthened by the use of poor materials and industrial rubbish. Hand-made products represent the possibility of social redemption in a poor country. Their intention is, however, to find a way for Brazilian design, avoiding European colonisation. In Italy, they participated in the "Viaggio in Italia" exhibition at Abitare il Tempo in Verona in 1994 and in 1995 at the exhibition organised at the Brazilian Consulate in Milan "Il Brasile fa anche design". In 1997 they designed lights for O Luce. Some of their pieces appear in the International Design Year Book of 1997, edited by Philippe Starck. In 1998 the Moma in New York dedicated the "Progetto 66" exhibition to them, coupled with Ingo Maurer.

Fratelli Campana

Born in Milan in 1918, he started work as an architect and designer with his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo in 1938. One of the great masters of Italian design, he was a founding member of ADI in the fifties. The long list of awards he has received include eight Compassi d'Oro. His activity as a designer is an unmistakable blend of simplicity, irony and fun and its shows his close interest in the way objects are used, in the potential offered by technology and in the use of new materials. He dies in 2002.

Born in Milan in 1911. He graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1936. He started working with his brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo immediately after the war focussing their attention mainly on city planning, architecture and particularly on design. All the experiments and studies on design were possible thanks to the many exhibitions they designed and where Livio worked as light and sound technician.

Livio Castiglioni

Originally from Beijing and educated both in China and in the US, Chang received Master of Architecture degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1984. 
He has been practicing in China since 1992 and established Atelier Feichang Jianzhu (FCJZ) in 1993. 
He has won a number of prizes, such as First Place in the Shinkenchiku Residential Design Competition in 1987, a Progressive Architecture Citation Award in 1996, the 2000 UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts, and the Academy Award in Architecture from American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006. 
He has published eight books and monographs so far, including one in English/French entitled Yung Ho Chang / Atelier Feichang Jianzhu: A Chinese Practice and one in Italian entitled Yung Ho Chang: Luce chiara, camera oscura. He participated in many international exhibitions of art and architecture, including five times in the Venice Biennale since 2000. 
He has taught at various architecture schools in the USA and China; he was a Professor and Founding Head of Graduate Center of Architecture at Peking University from 1999 to 2005; 
he held the Kenzo Tange Chair at Harvard in 2002 and the Eliel Saarinen Chair at Michigan in 2004.

Yung Ho Chang

Born in Hong Kong in 1962, Gary Chang graduated in architecture in 1987. He was director of edge 1994-98, then set-up his own office edge (hk) ltd 1998. Assistant Professor in Hong Kong University from 1995-2000, he lectured at the Technische Universiteit in Delft (1997), the Royal College of Art in London (1999) and at the Polytechnics in Milan and Turin, Italy (2002). Panel-speaker at various architectural conferences-workshops. His projects were displayed at Archilab 2001 in Orléans, France (2000), the 7th (2000) and 8th (2002) International Biennale of Architecture in Venice and had his first solo exhibition, Play Lab, at the Arts Centre in Hong Kong (2000). He has won representative awards internationally and regionally: the 22nd Triennale of Milan (1985), 25th Central Glass Competition in Tokyo (1990), the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Awards in Hong Kong (1993, 1994, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001), President Prize of the Institute of Architects Annual Awards in Hong Kong (1996), the Grohe Design Award in Singapore (1997), and the Young Architect Award in Hong Kong (1996). Recent projects include the Cannes Garden Clubhouse at Guangzhou (2002) and a weekend house in the Commune by the Great Wall, Beijing (2001-02), in China, and Kitagata Housing Phase II at Gifu, Japan (2001-02).

Pierre Charpin was born in 1962 in Saint-Mandé (Paris). An artist by education, his devotion to the design of furniture and objects dates from the beginning of the 1990’s. His research appears in the projects which he develops for the Design Gallery Milano and the Kreo Gallery in Paris. In tandem with his more experimental projects his work is recognized by various companies of international renown such as Post Design, Zanotta, Montina, Venini, La Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. In 2004 he wins a competition for the design of a water carafe for the Société Anonyme de Gestion des Eaux de Paris (Paris Waterworks), the carafe “Eau de Paris”; the “Triplo“ vase produced by Venini appears in the selection of the Compasso d' Oro 2005. The Paris Furniture Fair elects him creator of the year 2005. He has several personal shows and several of his pieces are included in the collections of the FNAC (National Foundation for Contemporary Art) of the Georges Pompidou center and of the Decorative Arts Museum of Paris.

Pierre Charpin

Born in Florence in 1946, in 1970 Chia moved to Rome where, after a trial period in the beehive of conceptual culture, he moves towards the dexterity of painting. In 1979 Achille Bonito Oliva integrated his work into the field of a new trend called Transavanguardia and invited him to exhibit at the shows curated by him to establish the movement internationally. Between 1981 and 1983 he participated in fundamental exhibitions which drew to the attention of the public the return of art as representation and the new neo-expressionistic quest. His paintings celebrate the sensuality of the body and the vitality of nature in the exuberance of figures increasingly monumental, which soon find a concrete solution in bronze. The dialogue with iconographic themes, motifs and techniques of art history, reworked with a completely personal easy-going irony, becomes more intense in his work.

Gabriele Chiave knows no boundaries. As a lifelong observer of the world around him, Gabriele is driven by the comprehensive nature of design and a desire to ignite meaningful interaction between product and consumer. Born to diplomat parents in Metz in 1978, he has lived in France, Dakar, Caracas, Buenos Aires, Rome, Milano and now makes his home in Amsterdam. These diverse resident experiences enable him to bring a global perspective to design like no other.
Having won competitions for Emergency, Rotari, Epson, Toshiba and Pirelli, as well as spending significant time at Marc Sadler studio, and working with prestigious Italian brands such as Alessi (organization of 7 Workshops held by LPWK/Alessi), Dainese, Foscarini and Serralunga, Gabriele has mastered the subtle nuances and balance between form and function, industry and art, structure and experimentation.

David Chipperfield studied at Kingston School of Art and the Architectural Association in London. After graduating he worked at the practices of Douglas Stephen, Richard Rogers and Norman Foster.
David Chipperfield Architects was established in 1984 and the practice currently has over 200 staff at its offices in London, Berlin, Milan and Shanghai. The practice has won numerous national and international competitions and many international awards and citations for design excellence, including RIBA and AIA awards and the Stirling Prize 2007.
In 1999 David Chipperfield was awarded the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal. In 2004 David Chipperfield was made an Honorary Member of the Florence Academy of Art and Design, and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to architecture. He was appointed Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in 2006, and in 2007 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and an Honorary Member of the Bund Deutscher Architekten
(BDA). He was elected a Royal Academician (RA) in 2008 and awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Kingston University.
In 2009 David Chipperfield was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany – the highest tribute that can be paid to individuals for service to the nation – and in the UK New Year Honours 2010 was named Knight Bachelor for services to architecture in the UK and Germany. The same year he was awarded the Wolf Foundation Prize in the Arts and the Grand DAI Award (Verband Deutscher Architekten- und Ingenieurvereine) for Building Culture.
David Chipperfield received the RIBA Royal Gold Medal for Architecture in 2011.
Given in recognition of a lifetime’s work, the Royal Gold Medal is approved personally by Her Majesty the Queen.
David Chipperfield has taught and lectured worldwide. He has been Professor of Architecture at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Stuttgart, and Visiting Professor at several schools of architecture in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, and is an Honorary Professor at the University of the Arts London.

Born in Puglia in 1955. He works and lives in Florence where he graduated in Architecture in 1980. Since 1989 he has taught Technology of Production at the I.S.I.A. Biagio Cisotti

Born in Barcelona in 1941. He receives the architecture degree in the “Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura” of Barcelona in 1965. In that school, he was a drawing teacher from 1977 to 1984. During the 95/96 and 96/97 courses he was a visiting professor in the P.F.C classroom and Projects I and II teacher in the 97/98, 98/99 and 99/00 courses.
In 1964 he founds Studio Per in cooperation with the architects Pep Bonet, Cristian Cirici and Oscar Tusquets. With the latter, he collaborates in multiple projects until 1983.
In 1984, he joins in partnership with Ignacio Paricio for the architectonic production until the year 2008. He is also a founding partner of the firm "B.D Ediciones de Diseño"

Lluís Clotet

“Because architecture is sensuous, the more of it there is in products - says Coates - the better.” Typically his objects have body-like curves, and playful character. His architecture has characteristic fluidity too, and seems inclined to muscle-in on the city. Architect, designer and commentator Coates is one of those rare talents whose vision relies on the overlap between professional fields. He considers the complexity and confusion of cities as fundamental to their attraction, an attitude which translates into his iconoclastic buildings in Japan and the UK, such as the Wall in Tokyo, the Pop Museum in Sheffield, and the Body Zone in the Millennium Dome. In 1998 he designed his proto-living unit, the Oyster House, which included a raft of objects including the OXO sofa system and the first of his vase designs in glass. His book ‘Guide to Ecstacity’, 2003 is published by Laurence King.

Born in Milan in 1930. He studied at the Academy in Brera and then attended Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan which he left to run his father's concern. In the early 50s he devoted himself to informal painting and took part in the MAC, Movement of concrete art. In 1964, he was awarded the In-Arch prize for the furniture project of a hotel. He was awarded the Compasso d'Oro prize in 1967 and in 1981, the SMAU prize in 1981. He developed for Bayer "Visiona 69", a habitat suggestion shown at the Moma in New York.

Joe Colombo

He began his career as a designer in 1960, making a name for himself with innovative designs for motor vehicle bodywork made of fibreglass. He has collaborated with companies that manufacture computers and private and public industrial vehicles. Several of his works are exhibited in international museums, such as Big Screen, a professional viewer, for C &amp; Partners (1986) and the timing attendance reader terminal TRP2000 Dating (1987).

Adam Cornish’s work is born of simple observational based design. Adam believes his work is both inspired by and contributes to the continuing evolution of products. Just like animals and plants; products need to evolve and adapt to better suit the continually changing environment, advances in materials or new technologies and the impact each of these have on our planet. Adam studied Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney and more recently, completed a degree in Furniture Design at Royal Melbourne's Institute of Technology, where Adam retains a close affiliation. He regularly lectures and shares insights into his manufacturing experiences with students at RMIT. The scope of Adam's work includes an impressive range of design disciplines, including furniture and household innovation, as well as complex commercial and residential installations.

Adam Cornish

matali crasset, born in 1965, is by training an industrial designer,. After her initial experience with Denis Santachiara Italy and with Philippe Starck in France, she set up her own studio in Paris, in an old renovated printworks in the heart of Belleville. It is there, among children and neighbours, that she dreams up her projects.
Since the 1990s, she has been looking at her profession of designer in a global fashion. With a view of the world that is both expert and always new, she questions the obviousness of the codes so that she can be more free of them. 
matali crasset works with a variety of actors, just as easily with the curious craftsman as with an individual in search of a new life scenario. Always in search of new territories to explore, she collaborates with eclectic worlds, from crafts to electronic music, from the textiles industry to fair trade, realising projects in set design, furniture, architecture, graphics, collaborations with artists, and so on.

Pierfrancesco Cravel graduated from the Politecnico di Milano where he attended the courses of Arturo dell’Acqua, Corrado Levi and Andrea Branzi with whom he designed some furniture for the house of Lawrence Steele, Grand Vases and Genetic Tales. 
In 1998, he became Art Director for the Trussardi Group working with Nicola Trussardi and photographers that included Satoshi Saikusa, Steven Klein and Armin Linke. He designed the Python perfume bottle and the Trussardi Home Collection. 
At his own company, PFC architects, founded in 2000, he has designed and created many commercial and residential building notably The Pirelli Skyscraper in Milan (1996), Villamoda (2001) and the public space around the Dubai International Financial Centre (2007). In 2012 he started to design for Alessi (Liconi 2012), Driade (Andrea and Lawrence) and Petite Hache (Dessins écologiques pour Pascale Mussard).
He has lectured in Architecture and Industrial Design at the Politecnico di MiLano since 1999 and as a “Visiting Professor” at the Luigi Bocconi University in Milan in 2010 and at the IED (L’Istituto Europeo di design) in 2012.
He has written articles and reviews for Vogue Italia and more recently for Domus online.

Riccardo Dalisi

Odile Decq studied architecture at the Universities of Rennes and Paris. She is one of the few women architects to have received some of the most prestigious awards in her profession, from the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1996 to the recent Designer of the Year at the Salon Maison &amp; Objet 2013. Architect. Michele De Lucchi was a prominent figure in movements like Cavart, Alchimia and Memphis. He designed lamps and furniture for the most well known Italian and European companies and realized architectural project in Italy and abroad. Alain Ducasse was born in a farm in Castelsarrazin in the Landes region of south-western France on September 13th 1956. In 1977 he worked at Roger Vergé’s “Moulin de Mougins” and in 1978 he is employed by Alain Chapel in Mionnay where he spent two years with the chef who became his spiritual master. In 1980 Roger Vergé offers him the position of Chef at “L’Amandier” in Mougins. One year later, Alain Ducasse takes charge of the kitchen brigade at “La Terrasse”, the restaurant in the Hôtel Juana in Juan-les-Pins, and in 1984 he was awarded two stars in the Red Guide. In 1987 the Société des Bains de Mer (S.B.M.) offers him the position of Chef des Cuisines at the Hôtel de Paris in Monte-Carlo, and asks him to manage the “Le Louis XV” restaurant. This is the first hotel restaurant to be awarded, in 1990, three stars in the Red Guide. In 1995 inaugurates “La Bastide de Moustiers”, a country inn in Provence, awarded one star in the Red guide in 2002, and on August 12th 1996 he opens the “Alain Ducasse” restaurant in the hotel “Le Parc - Sofitel Demeure Hôtels”, in Paris and one year later the restaurant is awarded three stars in the Red Guide.
Alain Ducasse opens many other restaurants: in December 1998 the first concept “Spoon, Food &amp; Wine”, in Paris; in June 2000 “Alain Ducasse at the Essex House” in New York City; in December 2000 “59POINCARE”; in July 2002 “Auberge Iparla” in the French Basque County and restaurant “Aux Lyonnais” in October 2002 in Paris; in September 2005 Benoit Tokyo, a Mediterranean bistro in Aoyama.
Alain Ducasse involves himself in every aspect of the business, from choosing interior designers, to recruiting staff, to launching his new restaurants in Monaco, Paris, New York, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and even La Celle en Provence.

Monica Förster, creator of some of the most internationally renowned objects in contemporary Swedish design today, is based in Stockholm but grew up close to the Artic circle in the very north of Sweden. Her work is characterized by a strong sense of pure form mixed with a neverending curiosity for new materials and technology. Always trying to work in a cross-disciplinary way, she invents and renews typologies in industrial, furniture and object design. Monica Förster, who is one of the top names within Swedish design, has created some of the future´s classic designs. Naoto Fukasawa was born in Yamanashi prefecture, Japan, in 1956. He graduated from Tama Art University's product
design department in art and 3D design in 1980. Until 1988, Fukasawa worked as a designer at Seiko-Epson corp.
In 1989, he left Japan for the United States. In San Francisco he joined a small office - ‘ID two’, the predecessor to ‘IDEO’ and after eight years Fukasawa returned home. In 1996, he helped set up ‘IDEO’ in Japan - a team
of eight designers working mainly for the Japanese market. He stayed with it until december 2002.
Naoto Fukasawa he went independent and in January 2003 he established ‘Naoto Fukasawa design
in Tokyo. Fukasawa joined the advisory board of the Japanese company ‘MUJI’.
In December 2003 he set up a new product brand ’±0’. ‘plusminuszero’ designs and produces
domestic objects, from umbrellas to electronics. Naoto Fukasawa is a lecturer in the product design
department Musashino art university and Tama art university in Tokyo.
Naoto Fukasawa's designs have won more than 50 design awards in Europe and America.

The London Future Systems firm was founded in 1979 by Jan Kaplicky, born in Czechoslovakia in 1937 and graduated from the College of Applied Arts and Architecture in Prague in 1962. From 1968 Kaplicky worked in London with Denys Lasdun, Piano &amp; Rogers, Spencer &amp; Webster and Norman Foster. Amanda Levete was born at Bridgend, Britain, in 1955, and qualified at the Architectural Association in London in 1982. After professional practice with Alsop &amp; Lyall, yrm Architects and Richard Rogers &amp; Partners, in 1989, she joined Future Systems. They work in many parts of the world on architectural projects, urban furniture, interiors, industrial design and visual communication. Their work is distinctively innovative in its handling of image and its functional and technological research. 
 Their major projects and completed works include: the Visitors’ Centre at Stonehenge, England (1992); Hauer-King House in London (1994); the Natwest Media Centre at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London (1994-99), which won the riba Stirling Prize (2000), the British Construction Award (1999) and the Aluminium Immagination Award (1999); the floating footbridge linking Canary Wharf and the West India Quay in London (1994-99); the installations for the showrooms of the international fashion chain Comme des Garçons in New York, Tokyo and Paris. Jan Kaplicky died in 2009.

Born in Pordenone in 1960. She specialized in Industrial Design at the Scuola Politecnica di Design. From 1986 to 1991 she collaborated with Michele De Lucchi. She is partner at Giovannoni Design studio and works as designer with Alessi, Giemmegi, Metals, Viceversa and others. She holds design courses at the Domus Academy.

Elisa Gargan

After graduating with a degree in architecture in Florence, Gian Franco Gasparini taught industrial design at ISIA in Florence. He founded and directed, for twelve years, the Università del Progetto, a school for design and communication located in Reggio Emilia, and he has directed design and communications projects for major internationally-famous companies.
In 2002 Anna and Gian Franco Gasparini founded the Architettura della Comunicazione company, which works in the area of design and on the communication processes associated with it. Their most recent projects are the Langhe Museum in Grinzane Cavour castle, the coordinated image project for the network of Cariparma/Crèdit Agricole bank branches, and consultancy for a number of major companies.

Anna e Gian Franco Gasparini

Born in 1930, he studied architecture at the University of Southern California and studied City Planning at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard. He developed projects of private and public city planning in America, Japan. In Europe, he has recently been awarded the Pritsker Architecture Prize in 1989 and the Wolf Prize in Art in 1992. His projects have been published all over the world. The most important retrospective, "The Architecture of Frank O. Gehry" has been organized by the Walker Art Center in 1986 and has travelled the major American museums.

Paolo Gerosa

Born in 1958 in Montmorency, France, Christian Ghion received a Law degree in Paris in 1982. He later studied at the École du Louvre and the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), graduating in 1987. That same year, along with Patrick Nadeau, he set up the Ghion-Nadeau practice. The firm's work on design objects, furniture, backs and interior design allowed Ghion to start making a name for himself as a designer: in 1990, the 'Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris' award was bestowed on him. He has lectured at the Écoles des Beaux Arts in Saint-Etienne, Reims and Rennes. He has created designs for many companies, including Nespresso, Laguiole, Salviati, Driade, Batimat, Sawaya &amp; Moroni, Christian Dior, Salviati, Campari, Cappellini, Yves Saint Laurent and Poltrona Frau. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, and in many other collections across the globe.

Born in La Spezia in 1954, Stefano as an architect and designer was taught by Buti at Florence University. In the early 80’s he founded the King-Kong Production Group along with Guido Venturini. His explosive talent enables him to embody a complex system of 'affective codes' in his projects. This great approach won him the title of 'Super &amp; Popular' designer in the 90’s. A technical designer par excellence he has industrial design in his DNA and the capacity to understand public sentiment like no other designer mentioned in this catalogue.

In 2007, he received a BTS diploma in product design from Blois after studying applied arts. He moved towards architecture while working at a studio in Marseille. In 2009, he was commissioned to design furniture for the "Villa Noailles" exhibition in Hyères, which was followed by the exhibition at the Furniture Fair in Milan. That same year, once again taking up his passion for product design, he enrolled at ECAL (the Lausanne School of Art) to obtain a diploma in industrial design. In 2010, he designed "Spettro" for Alessi. For the second time, one of his creations was presented at the International Furniture Fair in Milan. In 2012, together with a team of other students, he created the scenery for the "Festival Images" in Vevey, Switzerland

Matthieu Girel

Born in New York in 1929, is one of the most famous and appreciated graphic designers of this century. He renovated the graphic programmes of many magazines and was responsible for advertising campaigns of various companies all over the world: he designed advertising posters for Italian companies Olivetti and Campari. Some of his works are part of permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the Smithsonian Institute of Washington and the New York National Archive.
